Biotechnology

Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2001 and offers a two-year Master of Science degree in Biotechnology and later became an aided course in 2010. The main objective of the program is to impart high standards of theoretical as well as practical knowledge to students in various fields of Biotechnology. The Department has been upgraded to a Research Center in Biotechnology under MG University in 2023. The department has a four-member well-qualified faculty from different backgrounds in Life science.

Several research projects, seminars and workshops funded by different Government agencies like UGC, KSCSTE, etc are conducted by the Department. We have a DST-FIST-supported laboratory and contribute to social outreach activities like consultancy services in water quality analysis. To meet the requirements of the industry and research community, a supporting infrastructure is provided through laboratory courses, projects, dissertations, and possible entrepreneurial ventures in biotechnology. Study tours to industrial units and research institutions are also conducted for students to get a hands-on experience of the real working environment and go beyond classroom learning. Over the years the students of the Department have secured the top five positions in the MSc Biotechnology program conducted by MG University. Many of our alumni are well placed in their careers- as research associates working in international and national laboratories, doctoral degree holders, CSIR-UGC JRF holders, and part of industry and clinical laboratories.
